Theme: “Africa in Global Trade: Navigating the Continent out of the Poverty trap

Zik Lecture Series, one of the biggest annual lecture Series events in the country endowed to commemorate and celebrate the legendary Zik of Africa, the 1st Indigenous President of Nigeria, renowned Pan-Africanist and Nigeria foremost nationalist and statesman, is poised to mark its anniversary in this unique combined 9th/10th Lecture Series auspicious event.

The Lecture Series, an annual intellectual event endowed by High Chief Distinguished Sen. Dr. Ben Ndi Obi (CON) has grown in leaps and bounds, becoming one of the most renowned University instituted intellectual events in the country and Nnamdi Azikiwe University most attended academic occasion, a signature project of the University and an initiative of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

It has come to be the biggest intellectual conversation in any Nigerian University, drawing eminent scholars and statesmen from across Africa and the globe and dealing on issues that cut across Africa’s development and political progress.

This special 9/10th anniversary which will hold on Tuesday, 16th Nov. 2021 (Zik’s Birthday) has drawn a crop of renowned scholars of international repute, experts, and eminent dignitaries that will do justice to the theme of the series, which aptly captures the burning national economic concerns of Nigeria and Africa as a continent.

This unique anniversary celebration promises to produce a rich harvest of intellectual property that will strengthen and enhance the economic capacity of Nigeria and Africa in global trade and world economy, and a host of other interesting programmes.

The 9/10th edition would hold under the Deanship of Professor Uche Collins NWOGWUGWU, a Professor of Development and Energy Economics in Nnamdi Azikiwe University – Awka.

Prof. Nwogwugwu has an intensive and diverse range of experiences in the last 26 years, teaching, researching, publishing, and consulting on developmental issues of peace and conflicts, sustainable development issues of energy and environment, Game and Decision Theory.

He has graduated more than a dozen Ph.D. graduates most of them are now Professors. He is a member of several professional organizations notably the Nigerian Association for Energy Economics and affiliate of the International Association for Energy Economics (NAEE/IAEE) currently serving as the Vice President, African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), based in Nairobi, Kenya, and the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) where he is a serving member of the Council.

He has served in the University of his employment as Head of Department, Faculty Representative at the Senate, Sub Dean of the faculty of social sciences and currently the Dean of the Faculty and a permanent member of the University Senate.

He is equally a past President of the Rotary Club of Awka and a holder of Paul Harris Fellow.

He is a Professor of Industrial Relations in the Department of Sociology/Anthropology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and National President, Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association (NASA), a Fellow of the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association. A former University Orator in 2001, Prof Nnonyelu has served Nnamdi Azikiwe University in various capacities, a Two time Head of Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Sub Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, under whose tenure, the Zik Lecture Series, started.

He was infact the facilitator of the Zik Lecture Series from inception. He was Dean, Students Affairs ( 2009 – 2012 ), Director of Continuing Education Programme ( CEP ) in 2014, and a former Director, Unizik Business School from 2016 to June 2021.

Prof Nkemdili Au Nnonyelu was elected in two different times to represent the University Congregation in the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

He has supervised successfully many doctoral and other post graduate students. He is the current Director, Emeka Anyaoku Institute for International Studies and Diplomacy. He has to his credit many academic publications in reputable National and International Journals and other platforms.

He is a long standing member of the University Senate, and has chaired several Senate and Vice Chancellor’s Committees. He has Chaired several Accreditation Panels of National Universities Commission ( NUC ) in different universities across the country.
Prof Au Nkemdili Nnonyelu has also served Anambra State, as Commissioner for Education, Special Adviser to the Executive Governor on Ecology and Environment, Board Chairman of Anambra State Housing Corporation, and Transition Chairman, Awka South Local Government Area. He is a Three Star Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, a Papal knight of the Order of St Sylvester, and a Noble Knight of St John International.

He is a Professor of International Relations & Strategic Studies; Legislative Fellow of TISSA; First Political Coordinator of RAJA in Africa; Coordinator, University Staff Welfare & Resources, and Deputy University Orator; former HOD, Political Science, and author of a good number of academic works; Member, NPSA; Global Citizens Initiative; PCDN; and Crisis Mappers, etc.

Prof. Ifeoma Vivan Dunu – Chair, 9/10th Combined Zik Lecture Series Committee

Prof. Dunu is a Professor of Mass Communication, a renowned International Researcher in Communication and Media studies with a specialization in Broadcasting, Gender, and PRAD, as well as a Consultant for International agencies. She has served as Reviewer for International peer review journals.

A scholar of repute with many International and national publications to her credit, Professor Dunu currently serves as PhD external examiner in different universities across the Country and has produced many PhD and Msc students. A former HOD of Mass Communication and Media Consultant, she was the Chair of 8th Zik’s Annual Lecture Series and currently chairing this 9/10th edition.

Dr. Nneka P. Oli – Vice-Chair, 9/10th Combined Zik Lecture Series Committee

Dr. Oli is an Associate Professor and Head, Department of Sociology/Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. She is the current Vice-Chairman, Zik Annual Lecture Series Committee. Dr. Nneka Oli was the Vice-Chairman (2012-2016) and Secretary Zik Annual Lecture Series Committee (2016-2019).

Dr. Metu is a lecturer in the Department of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. She has been a member of the Annual Zik Lecture Series since 2018 and is presently the Secretary of the 2021 Zik Lecture Series Committee.

Dr. Bonaventure Chigozie Uzoh holds a Doctorate in Industrial and Labour Relations. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology. He is also a resource person at the School of General Studies, UNIZIK Business School, and Centre for Migration Studies. Dr. Bonaventure Chigozie Uzoh has served and still serving in many Departmental, Faculty, and University Committees. He has published extensively in reputable Local and International Journals.

Dr. Uju Regina Ezenekwe is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Nigeria. Apart from her regular teaching and research, Dr. Uju Ezenekwe also served Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka in several capacities. She was the first female HOD of Economics Department from 2017 -2019, Associate Director on Information Centre & Library Unizik Business School from 2016-2019, she is currently the Deputy Director School of General Studies NAU Awka and member of some committees in the university.

She is a member of professional associations such as Nigerian Economic Society, Association for the Advancement of African Women Economist ( AAAWE), International Association for Female Academic Doctors (IAFAD), Associate Fellow, African Heritage Institute, Enugu State and Fellow, Center for Migration, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Junior Fellow, Pan-African Scientific Research Council. She is also a consultant
with African Development Institute and Afriheritage.

Chief Hon. Sebastian Anekwe, Ph.D., Political Science, International Relations Major, was a former Chief Whip of the Anambra State House of Assembly, former Personal Assistant to the Speaker of Anambra State. He had led successful senatorial and presidential campaign Organizations and was a former Canada Fund Coordinator at the Canadian High Commission in Lagos, Nigeria, Sole Administrator of Anambra State Transport company,  a former Legislative Aide (Senate) to Sen. Ben Ndi Obi, Senior lecturer, Department of Political Science Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. Politically very active, grass-root mobilizer, dependable political tactician. He was the Secretary of the Annual Zik Lecture Series from 2012-2016.

Dr. Kelechi Kenneth Osayi holds a doctoral degree in Social Work and Correctional Studies and lectures in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

Dr. Uche Ekwugha, holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication with a specialization in Development/Environmental Communication. She is a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and equally serves in different committees in the University.

Dr. Uchenna Nnanna Anyanwu, lectures at the department of Economics Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. He has a special interest in the Public sector and Monetary Economics. He had worked in several banks in Nigeria in different capacities before joining the University.

She is a Development Economist with a research interest in Gender issues, Health issues, Financial issues, and poverty issues. She is from Oguta in Imo State.
